Stellar investors analysis

WHAT IS STELLAR?
Stellar is a decentralized open source payment network. Stellar Lumens (XLM) are the native asset on the network that are used for facilitating exchanges.

STRENGTHS

  • Fees- A transaction fee of 0.00001 XLM  ($0.000005) is purely to deter DDoS attacks.
  • Near instant transaction settlement (0-5 seconds)
  • Stellar.org is non profit with an intent to fight global poverty
  • Business partnerships- Stellar seems to be constantly adding new partnerships with IBM and DELOITTE being the biggest.

WEAKNESSES

Stellar is a pre-mined coin with Stellar.org holding and distributing remaining tokens via airdrops over the next 10 years.

  • 17.85 Billion XLM in circulating supply out of 103.5 billion XLM total.
  • A high XLM price would not necessarily further the  goal of reducing poverty.

OPPORTUNITIES

The main mission objective from Stellar.org is to reduce world poverty.

They could become a global leader in blockchain banking and transactions.

THREATS

Ripple is the obvious threat to Stellar as Ripple already has market share in this space and a much bigger corporate partnership portfolio.

5 YEAR OUTLOOK

The outlook for Stellar Lumens is tough to call.

If you share Stellar.orgs desire to make the world a better place then this should be a worthwhile project to be involved with.

If however you are looking from a pure financial gains standpoint then the massive amounts of XLM still to enter circulation has to be carefully considered.

Monero analysis investor guide

WHAT IS MONERO?

Monero (XMR) is a privacy focused Cryptocurrrency.
Launched in 2014 It is secure, private, untraceable and open- sourced.
STRENGTHS
  • Privacy -Monero uses ring signatures, ring confidential transactions, and stealth addresses to hide the origins, amounts, and destinations of all transactions.
  • The blockchain doesn't have a block limit and is dynamically scalable.
WEAKNESSES
  • Limited merchant/ vendor adoption.
  • Storage- To date there are no hardware wallets that can store Monero. (Ledger is in progress)
  • Tax reporting could be difficult. (Some might argue this the point of Monero)
OPPORTUNITIES

Monero is currently the top Privacy coin as far as features go.

The challenge will be whether it can gain mainstream mass adoption.

THREATS

Governments are slowly having to make a choice whether they embrace Cryptocurrencies or fight to ban and push them underground.

Monero could come under attack as Governments  look to falsely lay blame for enabling "Terrorists, and drug dealers"  (the USD could also be blamed for this)

5 YEAR OUTLOOK

Monero is currently the Blue chip privacy coin and is likely to stay there for the immediate future.

If privacy is your thing then you probably already own Monero.

NEM summary

WHAT IS NEM?

NEM (New Economy Movement) is a smart asset blockchain platform, designed primarily for Enterprise use.

XEM is the cryptocurrency used for transactions on the NEM blockchain.

STRENGTHS

  • Scaling- Nem was designed from the ground up to be scalable and can handle 3000 transactions per second

  • Fees are scalable depending on size and complexity of transaction
  • Harvesting-  If an investor holds 10000 XEM they can "harvest" a new block and collect fees. This encourages investors to hold XEM.
  • Almost unlimited business use cases for the NEM platform

WEAKNESSES

  • As Nem is geared towards Enterprise adoption  the NEM Foundation doesn't seem as interested in marketing the currency XEM.

OPPORTUNITIES

NEM has the potential to revolutionize the way global Businesses operate.

Whichever "smart" blockchain platform is first to gain mass adoption in the business world could be the next Apple or Microsoft.

THREATS

NEM faces a lot of strong competition in this category.

Ethereum has a big head start. Other challengers include Cardano and NEO.

NEM will need to get the marketing right to ensure they stay competitive.

5 YEAR OUTLOOK

NEM looks to have a bright future ahead.

Where it is in 5 years depends on how well they can sell the real world applications for their smart asset blockchain.

The business world has to date been slow to realize the potential of blockchain technology. This could soon be about to change.

IOTA Summary,

WHAT IS IOTA

IOTA is an open-source distributed ledger cryptocurrency focused on providing secure communications and payments between machines on the Internet of things.

Instead of a blockchain it uses a directed acrylic graph (DAG) known as the TANGLE

STRENGTHS
  • Infinitely scalable
  • Zero fees
  • No mining, blocks or difficulty adjustments so cannot be centralized by miners
  • Strong team backed by the IOTA foundation
WEAKNESSES
  • Proprietary Technologies- IOTA code is not open sourced. This is a form of centralization that goes against blockchain Ideology
  • Technology- The technology behind IOTA possibly hasn't been around long enough to know how it will work at scale, and how it will hold up to attacks
OPPORTUNITIES

If successful, IOTA using The Tangle could be a viable competitor (or replacement) for blockchain technology. It could become the leader in micro-transactions and the Internet of things data transfer

THREATS

Security and network stability remain to be truly tested under load. Any hack or network congestion could severely effect the price.

5 YEAR OUTLOOK

The long term outlook for IOTA has great potential.

IOTA using the Tangle could be a future market leader. However should the technology become compromised somehow, expect a huge reduction in market cap.
